BAUCHKLANG, calling themselves a vocal-groove-project, are creating a sound which is not only zeitgeisty and progressive, but also challenging, covering a wide spectrum, tangible with all senses. From excessive groove to floating ambient, from almost brute to filigree, without being afraid of crossing borders. What makes the sound absolutely unique and distinctive:

BAUCHKLANG are generating their sounds and their music using nothing but their own voices.

Half a dozen vocal-chords and midriffs are sending out a cool groove, mashing the term “a-cappella” and then dusting it away. Innovatively using elements of the electronic music genre, such as groove, drum ‘n bass, dub, ragga, touching even ethno and dance.

The six „audiodidacts“ understand „vocal“ primarily as the feasibility to quest and to extend the human voice as an allround instrument, frequently reaching physically and psychic borders.

Changing their casts, improving and extending their skills and constantly searching curiously for the new and never heard, BAUCHKLANG became an independent, post-electronic phenomenon during the last six years, pricking up ears even beyond Austrias borderlines.

In 2000 the charismatic band around front-man Andreas Fraenzl advanced from an insider’s tip to one of Vienna’s and Austria’s most exciting projects and a highly demanded live-act in the electronic music and clubbing scene.

Doubtlessly BAUCHKLANG can be characterized as avant-garde. Their protrusion rests in their vocal skills and even more in their innovative way to use them, creating their own musical style which didn’t exist before like this:

Building up from the human voice, the aim is to rediscover the infinite variety of vocal sounds and to work with them in a way, state-of-the-art. All kind of sounds and noises, both melodic and toneless, in various keys and timbres are being creatively mixed and tested, remixed and almost reinvented.

Particularly by instrumentalizing the human voice as a perfect groove- and percussion-instrument, BAUCHKLANG shows the huge range of possibilities.

Spending almost two years of intensive studio work, BAUCHKLANG managed to catch, to keep and to transport the diversity and inimitability of their sound worlds.

Combining an eagerness for experiments with musical crossover, BAUCHKLANG are a kind of precursor, starting to capture new shores of the electronic music scene.
